Justice Chigumba Escapes Unharmed in Crash

In a fortunate turn of events, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), emerged unscathed from a serious road traffic accident on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred near Mapinga along the busy Harare-Chirundu Highway when a haulage tanker collided with her Toyota Landcruiser Prado, which was traveling from Chinhoyi.

The accident involved three other vehicles, but thankfully, no fatalities were reported at the scene. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic moment as the vehicles crashed, but the quick response from emergency services ensured that injuries were kept to a minimum.

ZEC deputy chairperson, Mr. Rodney Simukai Kiwa, confirmed that Justice Chigumba was unharmed. “I don’t have much detail about the accident except to say that she is fine and she is okay. She was not injured during the accident, and as we are talking right now, she is at home and not even admitted in hospital,” he stated.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reported that authorities are still gathering information about the accident and will release a detailed statement soon. The incident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Zimbabwe, particularly on major highways.
