Tombstone Unveiled for the Late Soul Jah Love

Three years after his passing, a tombstone celebrating the life of beloved Zimbabwean musician Soul Jah Love was unveiled recently at the Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare. The granite monument, which took almost a year to create, was generously donated by Tendai Mbofana of Ngoda Granites.

The intimate ceremony was attended by only the musician’s immediate family and close friends, allowing for a private tribute to Jah Love, who passed away in February 2021 after a prolonged battle with diabetes.

Soul Jah Love’s brother, Solomon Musaka, explained the decision for a small gathering, emphasizing the desire to avoid the chaos that marred the musician’s funeral. “We are forever grateful to Tendai Mbofana of Ngoda Granites; we have been working with him on this project for a very long time,” Musaka stated. “Finally, a tombstone has been erected in honor of Soul Jah Love, and we apologize to the fans for making the event a private affair. We didn’t want a repeat of the day of his burial when his fans destroyed many graves around the cemetery.”

Musaka also urged fans visiting the tombstone to respect the sanctity of the site. “The tombstone is a first of its kind by Ngoda Granites, and we encourage all Soul Jah Love’s fans to visit in an orderly manner. They should not tamper with anything and leave everything as it is,” he added.

Fellow musician Silent Killer reflected on Jah Love’s enduring legacy, stating, “Despite his death, Jah Love is still an inspiration. May his music continue to inspire us, kusvikawo tafa nekuti tese tiri muRoad.”
