ZESA announces increase in Load Shedding

ZESA Holdings has informed its customers of a technical challenge at the Hwange Thermal Power Station’s Unit 8, leading to reduced electricity generation capacity on the national grid.

In a statement released on August 24th, ZESA said that as a result of this generation shortfall, the utility has had to implement increased load shedding schedules across the country to balance electricity supply and demand.

“ZESA Holdings would like to inform its valued customers that the national power grid is currently experiencing reduced electricity generation capacity due to a technical challenge that occurred at the Hwange Thermal Power Station’s Unit 8,” the statement read.

The utility’s technical teams are reportedly working to resolve the fault and minimize the impact on customers. ZESA has appealed for patience and understanding from its customers during this period.

The Hwange Thermal Power Station is Zimbabwe’s largest power plant, with an installed capacity of 920 megawatts. The station’s aging infrastructure has been a persistent challenge for ZESA, which has struggled to maintain a reliable power supply across the country.

This latest disruption comes as Zimbabwe continues to grapple with an ongoing electricity crisis, with frequent power cuts and load shedding schedules impacting businesses and households nationwide.

ZESA has urged customers to closely monitor its official communication channels, including its website and social media platforms, for updates on the power situation and any changes to the load shedding schedule.
