A 24-year-old Gokwe man, Alfred Kamambo, has died after being stabbed with his own okapi knife during a fight with a friend he had accused of failing to deliver a parcel to his wife. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Mutemarongo Tuckshop in Mutemarongo Village, under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe South.

According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the suspect, Tinashe Katsikadova (17), and the deceased were former gold panners in Battlefields, Kadoma. Kamambo had entrusted Katsikadova with a cellphone and money to deliver to his wife, but the suspect allegedly failed to do so.

On Wednesday evening, Kamambo confronted Katsikadova at the tuckshop, demanding an explanation for the undelivered parcel. The ensuing argument escalated into a fight, with Katsikadova initially fleeing the scene before returning armed with a catapult.

The fight resumed, and Kamambo produced an okapi knife, intending to use it against Katsikadova. However, the younger suspect overpowered Kamambo, disarmed him, and fatally stabbed him in the chest, shoulder, and left ribs. Kamambo died at the scene.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested Katsikadova. Investigations are ongoing.

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of unresolved disputes and the potential for violence to escalate when emotions run high. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and the need for individuals to seek help when facing challenging situations.
