Mupambi Shares Key Citizen Rights &Responsibilities Ahead of SADC Summit

Ahead of the upcoming SADC Summit, prominent human rights defender Abigale Mupambi has shared a simplified extract of the rights, privileges, benefits, duties, and obligations of Zimbabwean citizens as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

In a post on social media platform X(formerly twitter), Mupambi emphasized the importance of citizens being aware of their fundamental rights and duties, particularly as Zimbabwe prepares to host the regional summit.

The extract highlights that Zimbabwean citizens, whether by birth, descent, or registration, are equally entitled to the rights, privileges, and benefits of citizenship, as well as the duties and obligations that come with it.

Key rights and benefits include:

– Protection of the State wherever the citizen may be

– Access to passports and other travel documents

– Obtainment of birth certificates and other identity documents issued by the State

Citizen duties and obligations include:

– Loyalty to Zimbabwe

– Observance and respect for the Constitution and its institutions

– Respect for the national flag and anthem- Defending Zimbabwe and its sovereignty to the best of one’s ability

Mupambi, known for her tireless advocacy for human rights in Zimbabwe, believes that empowering citizens with this knowledge can help them navigate their roles and responsibilities, especially as the country prepares to welcome regional leaders.
