Man jailed 18 months for weird way to show love

In a shocking display of misguided “love,” a 30-year-old man from Plumtree is facing 18 months in prison after brutally attacking his wife with a hammer.

Sims Ncube, the perpetrator, claimed that his violent actions were a sign of his affection for his wife, Monalisa Mpofu. However, the court made it clear that a wife is not a punching bag, and that such behavior is unacceptable.

The incident occurred on July 11, 2024, when Ncube came home late at night and asked his wife to lend him her cellphone to call their tenant. When Mpofu opened the door, Ncube dragged her outside and proceeded to strike her multiple times on the head and right limb with a hammer, causing serious injuries.

Ncube pleaded guilty to the charges of physical abuse, shocking the court with his claim that he attacked his wife because he loved her. However, the magistrate, Joshua Nembaware, was unconvinced by this defense, sentencing Ncube to 24 months in prison, with 6 months suspended for 5 years on the condition that he does not commit any further offenses involving physical abuse.

This case serves as a stark reminder that domestic violence is never acceptable, regardless of any perceived justifications. The court’s message is clear: a wife is not a punching bag, and those who perpetrate such heinous acts will face the consequences of their actions.
