Government to Rehabilitate Harare-Nyamapanda Highway, Upgrade Nyamapanda Border Post

The government has announced plans to rehabilitate the dilapidated Harare-Nyamapanda highway and transform the Nyamapanda Border Post into a modern, world-class port of entry.

Speaking to residents of Mutoko, Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has heard the concerns of locals about the poor state of the highway, which is riddled with patches and in need of comprehensive repairs.

“President Mnangagwa, who is a listening President, has heard all your concerns with regards to the rehabilitation of the Harare-Nyamapanda highway,” Mhona told the Zanu PF inter-district meeting.

The minister said the government will work on the road from the E.D. Mnangagwa Road, formerly known as Enterprise in Harare, all the way to the Nyamapanda border post with Mozambique.

In addition, Mhona announced that the Nyamapanda Border Post will also undergo a major upgrade, similar to the work done at the Beitbridge and Forbes border posts, to turn it into a world-class facility.

“We will not end there, we will also upgrade the Nyamapanda Border Post and make it a world-class port of entry,” the minister said.

Mhona emphasized that these infrastructure development plans are not just campaign promises, but commitments that the government, under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, is now moving to fulfill.

“I am not saying this to look for votes, elections are over and President Mnangagwa is fulfilling the promises he made when he assumed office,” he said.

The rehabilitation of the Harare-Nyamapanda highway and the transformation of the Nyamapanda Border Post are expected to boost economic activity and cross-border trade in the region.
