Domboshava Road Reconstruction Project Nearing Completion

The reconstruction of a 7km stretch of road in Domboshava, which was in a deteriorated state, is progressing as the government has completed and opened a 1.8km section near Mverechena Business Centre. Plans are also underway to construct feeder roads in the area.

The 7km stretch of road extends from Mverechena Business Centre to Chogugudza, while the completed 1.8km section connects Mverechena to Chitate. The project, which began on April 12, is expected to be completed by May 31.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, accompanied by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi, recently visited Domboshava to inspect the progress. They officially opened the 1.8km section of the road.

In an interview, Minister Mhona acknowledged the delay in constructing the road but explained that due to the economic sanctions imposed on the country, the government had to rely on its own resources to fund the project. He expressed gratitude to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his efforts in mobilizing resources for the country.

Minister Mhona emphasized that the road reconstruction was not limited to Domboshava alone but would be extended to Bindura and other feeder roads in the region. He assured the people of Zimbabwe that although the government cannot rehabilitate all roads simultaneously, once a project begins, it will be completed.

Minister Munzverengwi praised the progress and thanked President Mnangagwa for his commitment to the development of every region and community in the country. She highlighted the significance of the road for the local agricultural sector, as it serves as a major transportation route for farmers. Minister Munzverengwi urged the contractors responsible for road rehabilitation to work diligently, expressing confidence in achieving the country’s Vision 2030 goals.

The government has also recently engaged Exodus & Company Neube Burrow Consortium to design and construct the Harare-Mvurwi-Guruve-Kanyemba Road. Additionally, the construction of access roads in the Mt Hampden area, including a new 6km boulevard from Bindura Road to the New Parliament Building, has commenced.
