In a bold and thought-provoking statement, Elias Mudzuri, the former vice president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), has expressed his concerns about the current state of the opposition, describing it as ineffective and lamentable in its ability to combat ZANU PF.

Mudzuri highlights the absence of a structured and cohesive opposition, stating that leaders have failed to come together and establish a strong counterforce against ZANU PF.

“ It is a sorry and sad story that the opposition today is in sixes and seven, it’s not there.
“There is no opposition with any structures and l say we have all failed as the leaders to come together and put a strong opposition to counter ZANU PF.

According to Mudzuri, the main problems lie in the selfishness and lack of understanding of statecraft and governance among opposition leaders. He emphasized that governance cannot exist without proper structures, but having structures alone is insufficient. Mudzuri asserts that the people must be granted a democratic space to freely choose their leaders.

“The problem has been selfishness and failure to understand state craft and governance, there is no gorvenance in any country without a structure ,
“How ever just having structures is not enough the people must be allowed a free democratic space to choose their leadership.

Mudzuri fondly recalls the strength of the opposition during the days when they were united under the MDC and Tsvangirai’s leadership. Despite occasional differences and splits, the opposition remained reasonably intact, working towards a shared agenda of overthrowing ZANU PF.

“The opposition was strong l remember the days when we all together under MDC and under Morgan Tsvangirai ,we worked towards one agenda to take over power from ZANU PF, we had a lot of differences here and there with a lot of splits but the opposition remained reasonably intact.”

In conclusion, Mudzuri expressed hope and resilience, emphasizing that the only viable way forward is for the opposition to reunite, as they did in the past, and form a cohesive movement capable of addressing the challenges faced by the nation. He called for introspection among leaders, urging them to honestly assess their shortcomings, engage in meaningful dialogue, and establish a solid structure starting from the ward, district, and provincial levels.

“We must restore MDC to what it was when Tsvangirai was alive. The answer is that we all have to look at each other in the face, reflect on what we have not done well and talk to each other and form the initial structure that starts from ward ,district and province .
