Self-styled Harare “prophet” Talent Madungwe (38) has been sentenced to 10 months in prison following his conviction on charges of contravening Road Traffic Act.
Madungwe, who calls himself “Heaven Army Commander” among other high-sounding spiritual titles, found himself on the wrong side of the law after he drove without a valid driver’s license and caused an accident near his home in Hatfield.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Madungwe committed the crime on the 6th of August 2024, at around 1020 hours, when he was driving a Toyota Aqua vehicle.
A magistrate at Epworth court heard that Madungwe was turning out of his home turning right and he side swiped a Nissan NP300 single cab along a strip road next to Airport road.
The truck was coming from the south heading towards Harare CBD, and it sustained minor damage on the load box due to the accident.
It was proved in court that Madungwe was driving without a valid licence.
On the first count of negligent driving, Madungwe was sentenced to a wholly suspended 4 months imprisonment for the first count, on condition that he does not commit an offence involving negligent driving in the next 5 years.
For the second count of driving without a valid driver’s license, Madungwe was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment of which 3 months were suspended for 5 years.
The remaining 3 months were suspended on condition that he completes 105 hours of community service
The vehicle in question was gifted to Madungwe by millionaire tycoon Wicknell Chivayo early this year, during Chivayo’s nationwide car-gifting spree that also benefitted high-ranking musicians and others.
