President Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed his pride in Zimbabwean youth innovation after touring local tertiary institutions and youth exhibition stands at the 7th SADC Summit public lecture held at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare. The President was particularly impressed by the showcased products, including drones and power stations, which he believes demonstrate the nation’s growing technological prowess.

During his tour, President Mnangagwa also visited the operational National Transtech Solutions Centre, which houses the newly established vehicle number plate production plant. This plant, a collaborative effort between the University of Zimbabwe and several other institutions, including the Harare Institute of Technology, Midlands State University, and Chinhoyi University of Technology, marks a significant step towards self-reliance in technology.

“Our university is producing number plates for the nation. We did not have that technology in the past. I am happy that we are doing it for ourselves,” President Mnangagwa remarked, emphasizing the importance of local innovation and development.

Following the tour, President Mnangagwa delivered a presentation at the 7th SADC Summit, which focused on the theme “Building Research Capacity and Innovation Ecosystems for a Sustainable Industrialised SADC Economy.” His address highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration within the region, drawing inspiration from the impressive advancements showcased by Zimbabwean youth.

The President’s visit to the various institutions and exhibition stands serves as a testament to the growing potential of Zimbabwe’s youth and their ability to contribute to the nation’s economic development. The advancements showcased at the event demonstrate the country’s commitment to technological progress and its potential to become a leading player in the SADC region.
