ZEC Ready for Mt Pleasant and Harare East By-Elections

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced its readiness to conduct the National Assembly by-elections in Mt Pleasant and Harare East Constituencies. The electoral body confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed, including the printing of the ballot papers and the establishment of polling stations.

The by-elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, marking an important milestone in Zimbabwe’s democratic process. ZEC Chief Elections Officer, Mr Utloile Silaigwana, expressed confidence in the commission’s ability to successfully carry out the electoral process.

In an election notice released today, Mr Silaigwana stated, “ZEC is ready to hold the by-elections as everything is now in place.” He further revealed that the Printing and Minting Company of Zimbabwe Pvt (Ltd) located at No. 1 George Drive, Msasa, Harare, was tasked with the responsibility of printing the ballot papers for the National Assembly by-elections.

The statement disclosed that a total of 42,300 National Assembly ballot papers have been printed for the Mount Pleasant Constituency, while an additional 38,850 ballot papers have been printed for the Harare East Constituency. These figures reflect the commission’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.

The by-elections hold significant importance as they provide constituents with the chance to elect new representatives who will advocate for their interests in the National Assembly. As such, the electoral commission has taken great care to ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a transparent and fair manner, upholding the principles of democracy.

ZEC has also urged all registered voters in Mt Pleasant and Harare East Constituencies to participate actively in the by-elections. Voters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the candidates and their proposed policies, enabling them to make informed decisions when casting their ballots.
