Netball Player Allegedly Shot by Coach

Kakhanya Ntetho, the twin sister of the late Khanyile Ntetho, who was tragically kidnapped, shot, and killed allegedly by her netball coach, is fervently seeking justice. Kakhanya, hailing from Centane in the Eastern Cape, vows to find no peace or rest until her sister’s netball coach is arrested. The incident occurred in East London on April 13 when Khanyile was allegedly shot to death following her team’s victory celebration, where she had been with her friend and coach.

The following day, as Khanyile failed to return home and her phone remained off, concern grew within the family. They visited the coach’s residence, hoping to inquire about Khanyile’s whereabouts, but were unable to locate her. Tragically, the family received the devastating news on April 15 that Khanyile had allegedly been shot dead by her coach and two accomplices after rejecting their advances.

According to reports, the suspect callously left Khanyile’s lifeless body outside a nearby hospital. Kakhanya expressed her unwavering determination to bring her sister’s malevolent coach to justice. She lamented, “This is the promise I make to my sister Khanyile. I will never ever rest until her evil coach is behind bars. I wish it was me lying there in front of that hospital, helpless. I know my sister was killed because she turned down their offer. She was stubborn, brave, and fearless. I’m sure she stood up to her coach and his friends when they made sexual advances. That’s why they decided to kill her because she was a fighter.”

Kakhanya stressed her desire for the culprits to face legal consequences. “I firmly believe that God’s plan will prevail. We should have been warned about netball coaches who harbor lustful intentions towards the girls they coach. It’s disgusting, and I won’t rest until justice is served. I’m heartbroken, and at times, I can’t even sleep at night, reminiscing about the moments we shared as sisters,” she mourned.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Hazel Mqala, confirmed the incident and provided details. “Police are investigating a murder case involving a 23-year-old female netball player who was shot in East Bank, Buffalo Flats, on April 13, 2024. The victim was with friends at the coach’s residence when gunshots were heard. Upon investigation, they found the victim with gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police are actively investigating to locate the whereabouts of the suspect,” stated Mqala.
