Prudence Chinhoi, a resident of Glenview, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for possessing drugs unlawfully. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has confirmed the court’s decision and provided details about the circumstances surrounding Chinhoi’s arrest.According to a statement from the NPAZ, Chinhoi was approached by police officers on June 10, 2023, based on a tip-off. The officers disguised themselves as potential buyers of illegal substances and engaged Chinhoi in a transaction involving marijuana and illegal cough syrup. During the encounter, the undercover officers arrested Chinhoi and confiscated a significant amount of contraband.Reports state that law enforcement officers found 50 bottles of Adco-salterpyn cough syrup and a plastic bag containing 980 grams of loose marijuana.The NPAZ statement explains, “She has been sentenced to 14 months in prison, with 6 months of the sentence suspended. Therefore, she will effectively serve 8 months.”
