First Lady launches waste separation facilities

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa at the Africa Unity square, Harare launched the waste separation facilities handing over recycling bins to government officials to ensure that the policy begins in the government and expressed her commitment to zero waste in Zimbabwe along with other women.

In her speech she confirmed that Zimbabwe had adopted an initiative that is already reducing waste through the national clean up campaigns that have helped increase participation on these initiatives and has led to the growth of the economy through trainings of recycling as a business.

“Am happy to say that Zimbabwe is already making some progress in the areas of reducing waste through the national clean up campaigns which help to increase participation on these initiatives, training on recycling as a business which has helped to encourage more people to get involved in the growth of the economy and recycling policies which make it easy for people to recycle.

She then advised that the movement can not be a one man game theirfore there is need to build together in raising awareness and she applauded the spouses of ministers,deputy ministers and permanent secretaries for committing towards championing the zero waste movement.

“To build on this progress there is need to work together in raising awareness towards zero waste in communities and all other stakeholders.

“Am happy to share with you that all spouses of our ministers,their deputies and permanent secretaries have already pledged their commitment towards joining me in championing the zero waste movement in Zimbabwe,thank you very much ladies.

Let me take this opportunity to challenge everyone to adopt bringing your reusable bags when you go shopping to reduce the use of plastic carrier bags which are closing our sewer,affecting our ecosystem and wildlife.

I will be working with environmental management agency EMA and the retail sector in amplifying this until we understand that simply home grown solutions and mindset change are what we need in addressing some of the challenges we are facing as a country.”She concluded.
